ACADEMIC GOALS
The aim of the Master is to start the students to operate successfully both in the design of new models and in refitting, as freelance professionals or within studios and production facilities. For this purpose, the Master in Yacht Design deals with topics which, proceeding by successive degrees towards the specialization, frame the complexity of the theme within clear reference systems to ease the rapid acquisition of familiarity with direct step-by-step applications.
Trainees become familiar with the various types of boats, know the recent evolution of pleasure boating: classifications, nomenclatures and standards; the characteristics of the boating market, the main production structures, the materials and construction techniques in use.
Approaching the project, They’ll be able to prepare the correct distribution of loads and the internal functional partition of the boat; know how to use the dedicated CAD tools effectively in the project; they are able to make the choice of the most suitable method to construct the surfaces suitable for CAM transfer for the milling of the pieces; are able to define the hydrostatic and hydrodynamic characteristics of the project and choose the most appropriate water lines; they can take care of the interior design, passing through the calculation of the boat’s trim, the applicable powers and the study of the most efficient rig (in the case of sailing boats); Project management principles and experiences, study of techniques and standards for industrial reproducibility, as well as rules and ways of protecting the project idea, as well as environmental and marine heritage complete the training.
